Healthy local foods

CATERING

We deliver nutritious food, cooked from scratch with seasonal ingredients from local farms. We nurture children's little bodies. All our foods look like themselves so kids can learn and appreciate real food. We nurture their minds.

We partner with GoodFood Bureau to help schools and daycare centers obtain Farm-to-School funds and/or other grants for which they might qualify.

CURRICULUM

We provide curriculum and materials for kids and we train the teachers. We teach where foods come from and how they affect our body. We create appreciation for farmers and all the people who work hard to get good food on our plates. We learn to take good care of ourselves and respect our hunger cues. We develop awareness for our environment and respect for nature.

Sprout Scouts curriculum includes:

     - healthy, local foods through meals and snacks,

     - taste tests,

     - children's books,

     - cooking activities,

     - gardening,

     - field trips to farms and Sprout Scouts kitchens,

     - farmer visits, and

     - physical activity.

We also organize seminars for parents and other community engagement activities such as farmer markets and cooking demonstrations.

What is Sprout Scouts?

We're a non-profit organization dedicated to catering farm-to-school meals to early care centers and to teaching children to eat, cook, and grow nutritious food. We help them develop a healthy relationship to food, their bodies, and the environment. We offer a three-part farm-to-school program: nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks, healthy eating and wellness curriculum, and gardening.

We're focused primarily on daycare and pre-K, when kids form eating habits and relationships to food. Exposing infants, toddlers, and young children to fresh local fruits and vegetables is crucial for developing food preferences and consumption patterns—the foundation for lifelong good health.

Our recipe:

take the profit out of school lunch and put the vegetables back in!

HEALTHY LOCAL MEALS
HEALTHY EATING HABITS

We teach kids to love eating right and cooking and growing good food.

They’ll spend the rest of their lives making smart choices about what they feed themselves and their own children—a healthy generation that loves vegetables.

We’re also growing the market for sustainable local and urban farming to create a vibrant and resilient local food economy.

Some centers qualify for 100% free farm-to-school programs, including meals. Others might be able to cut food service costs in half while bringing better nutrition and education. How?  We're a non-profit 501(c)3. It's the right thing to do.

WE GROW IT AND WE EAT IT!
